JTASD students participate in Pa. Junior Academy of Science Competitions

Nineteen Jim Thorpe Area School District students prepared and presented projects and findings to a panel of expert judges at the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science competition which was held recently at St. Thomas Moor School in Allentown.

Originally, the competition had been scheduled to be held in Easton on the last Saturday in February but it had to be rescheduled to Allentown after being snowed out.JTASD was represented by eight students from the L.B. Morris Elementary School and 11 students from the Jim Thorpe Area High School.In this competition, they competed with students from schools throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania.All first place finishers will go on to compete in the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science's state competition which will be held at Penn State from May 16 to 18.Those first place finishers from Jim Thorpe who have advanced to the state competition are : Haley Cope, 8th grade; Tyler McGeehan, 10th grade; and, with two first place finishes in Allentown, Chrisitian Ferko, 12th grade.Their advisor in these competitions is science teacher Nathan Donahue.
