Schuylkill crashes

Icy road conditions on Sunday and heavy rain and high winds on Monday were blamed for two Schuylkill County crashes according to state police at Schuylkill Haven.

On Sunday about 12:40 p.m. Megan J. Sonday, 24, of Schuylkill Haven, was driving a 2001 Subaru Forester westbound on Second Mountain Road, in North Manheim Township, when she lost control due to icy conditions. The car traveled across the eastbound lane where the front end struck an embankment along the berm. After impact the car traveled back across both lanes and onto the berm and rolled down an embankment, coming to rest on its roof on a dirt driveway at

U.S.S. Aachey'sSonday was injured and taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center South, Pottsville, by Orwigsburg ambulance. A passenger, James T. Brennan, 25, also of Schuylkill Haven, was not injured.On Monday about 5:36 a.m. Darice A. Wehry, 58, of Klingerstown, was driving a 2003 Ford Focus eastbound on Ridge Road in Eldred Township, when the vehicle impacted with a tree branch that came through the windshield striking her in the face.Wehry sustained a serious injury, troopers said, and was taken to the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Troopers said it has not been determined if the tree branch was already on the road or fell onto the car. Troopers noted Wehry was driving during heavy rains and high winds at the time of the accident.
