Golden agers

The Panther Valley Golden Agers will not hold a meeting on Jan. 11 due to illness and other complications. The meeting will be rescheduled and will be announced later.NesquehoningCrime watchThe next Crime Watch meeting in Nesquehoning will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. in the borough hall.NCFC auxiliaryThe Ladies Auxiliary to the New Columbus Fire Company will meet on Tuesday, Jan. 5 at 7 p.m., weather permitting. Gerry McConnon, president, will conduct the meeting.Serving on the hospitality committee will be Ursula Digiglio, Lucille Hosier, and Sissy McGorry. Please return all hoagie papers.Summit HillHeritage centerThe Summit Hill Heritage Center (formerly the St. Paul UCC), 1 W. Hazard St., will be having a "work day" on Saturday, Jan. 9, during which preparations will be started for a future grand opening. The day will begin at 8 a.m. and end with a lunch social at noon. The goal for this day is to reorganize the rooms, do some simple repairs and get the large hall, office and two smaller meeting rooms and kitchen ready for meetings, classes, parties, cultural events and non-denominational weddings and baptisms.The center is seeking pictures and memorabilia from the UCC and the local garment industry. Model railroad volunteers are also needed to help develop an old fashioned putz for next holiday season based on Summit Hill in the 19th and early 20th centuries.Recent improvements to the facility include additional heating and electric to make it possible to hold events in any weather.The board of directors will be having a short open meeting the same day. Anyone interested in this new project should attend. This will also be the first day memberships will be offered.Anyone interested in use of the facility can contact anyone of the board members: Elnora Clay, David Wargo, Sis DeHaven-Ruhf, Rose Armon, Lyle and Andrea Mantz and/or Deb Ranck.Other January events include: Sunday meetings by the Boy Scouts; Girl Scouts to meet at a date to be announced; Thursday Yoga classes for all by Jo Lynn Gazo; and quilters meeting on Wednesdays.SHCIO to meetThe Summit Hill Community Improvement Organization will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 11, in the borough hall. Debra Ranck, president, will be in charge of the session.Scripture sharingThe weekly scripture sharing sessions at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, will resume this week. The next session will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, in the social hall of the church.Legion to meetThe monthly meeting of American Legion Post 316, Summit Hill, will be held on Monday, Jan. 11, at 7:30 p.m. in the post home. Commander W. Kevin O'Donnell will be in charge of the session.A meeting of the Home Association will immediately follow the post's meeting.
