Community food bank

The Nesquehoning Food Bank will be held May 20 at the Meed's Methodist Church from 1-3:30 p.m.

Free dinner

The free dinner in Nesquehoning at the Meed's Methodist Church will be held on Wednesday, May 26, from 5-7 p.m.

Spaghetti and meatballs will be served

Food collection

On Saturday, the Nesquehoning Post Office collected food for the community food pantry.

Carriers picked up contributions at the doors of homes in town. Paula Anthony, director of the food pantry at the Methodist Church, would like to thank everyone for their contributions.

Summit Hill

GOP to meet

The Summit Hill Republican Club will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, May 13, at 7 p.m. in the Summit Hill Borough Hall.

The topic to be discussed will be the Primary Election on May 18.

Voter registration forms will be available.

President Stephen Redash will be in charge of the meeting and extends an invitation for all to attend.

New members are always welcome.

Membership dues for 2010 will be accepted.

Infant baptized

Marie Keegan, daughter of Michael and Bernadette (Freuler) Keegan, was baptized on April 25 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill.

Scripture sharing

The weekly scripture sharing sessions of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, will continue on Thursday, May 13, at 7 p.m. in the rectory.

Bloodmobile planned

St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, will sponsor a visit of the Miller-Keystone Blood Center on Tuesday, May 25.

The bloodmobile will be set up in the church hall from 2-7 p.m.

A goal of 35 pints has been set.

A free personal medication record refrigerator magnet will be given to each donor.


Novena scheduled

A novena in honor of St. Rita of Cascia, the "Saint of the Impossible," will be held Thursday through Saturday, May 20-22, in St. Katharina Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford.

The novena will begin on Thursday, May 20, with prayers and a Mass at 7 p.m., followed on Friday, May 21, by prayers and the anointing of the sick after the 7 p.m. Mass.

On Saturday, May 22, prayers and Mass will begin at 9 a.m., followed by a special blessing and the distribution of red roses.

Saturday is the feast of St. Rita.

St. Vincent Society

The St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford, will meet on Thursday, May 13, at 6:30 p.m. in the parish center.


Vacation Bible School

First Congregational Church of Coaldale will host Vacation Bible School June 21-25 from 6 to 8 p.m. nightly.

Children and youth ages 3 years to teens are invited to attend.

This year's theme is "Hero Headquarters" in which kids join forces with God. Heroes do the unexpected, take action, step out in faith, save the day and stand for truth.

Daily activities will include: opening exercises, lessons, song practice, snacks and crafts.
