Lucie Carpenito recently celebrated her 100th birthday. She was born on Jan. 25, 1910 in West Orange, N.J., the daughter of the late Dominic and Candida Capozzi. Her mother lived to the age of 103.

She spent part of her childhood in Italy, before returning to live in East Orange, N.J. As a teenager she studied music, eventually attending Julliard School of Music.In 1929 she married Anthony Carpenito.During World War II, Lucie was hired as an organist at St. Leo's Roman Catholic church in Irvington, N.J. In later years she led the Catholic high school's music department, taught music and gave piano lessons. She also taught for a while in the parochial grammar school.She spent more than 56 years at St. Leo's, finally retiring at the age of 91, and only because arthritis in her fingers prevented her from starting her car.Lucie's husband passed away in December of 1969, and she eventually moved to Pennsylvania. She was a resident of Mrs. Bush's Personal Care Home in Kunkletown and now lives at Brookmont Healthcare Center in Brodheadsville.Lucie and her husband had two children; a daughter, Marie Zurkowski, of Clearwater, Fla., who passed away in 2001 at the age of 71; and a son, Paul, 59, who resides with his wife Meg Smiley, in Little Gap. Their four children and their significant others include: Michael, with Stacey; Michelle, with Sandy; Lisa, with Robert; and Mark. Lucie has four great-grandchildren: Madison, Dante, Olivia and Emma.
