Park concert

At 7 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 8, the Hazleton Band will perform a concert in the Palmerton Borough Park. Please bring a lawn chair. In case of rain, the concert will be held in the Borough Hall, 443 Delaware Ave.

Community meal

A free community meal will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, at St. John's United Church of Christ, 891 Columbia Ave., Palmerton. Come for a free meal and fellowship.

Newspaper drive

The men and boys of St. John's Lutheran Church will hold their monthly newspaper drive on Saturday, Aug. 7. There will be one sweep of the Palmerton, Aquashicola, and Little Gap areas beginning at 8 a.m.

Papers should be bundled and placed within sight of the collectors. They are collecting papers only, no magazines. The shiny inserts are acceptable. They also need brown grocery size paper bags.

Persons missed, or those wishing to dispose of papers throughout the month, may take them to the garage across from the church on Fireline Road, which is always open. In case of bad weather, the drive will be held the following Saturday.

Historical Society

Beginning at 4 p.m., Monday, Aug. 9, the Palmerton Area Historical Society will hold its annual picnic at Bert Holczman's farm in Ashfield. Members and their guests are invited. Everyone is asked to bring a casserole, covered dish, or dessert. The society supplies the hamburgers, hot dogs, rolls, condiments, and beverages. To make a reservation, call (610) 377-5693. Rain date is Aug. 10.
