The December meeting of the Tamaqua Board of Health was held at the municipal building with Randolph Gormley, James Gormley, Earl Boettger, Shirley Becker, Health Officer Judith Hadesty R.N. and Health Enforcement Officer James Barron in attendance.Barron reported receiving and adjusting 16 complaints: 11 for rubbish or garbage; 2 possible infestations; 1 lack of hot water; 1 broken sewer line; and 1 strong odor.There were no cases of reportable diseases for the month of November.As Winter weather approaches, board members remind residents to have their heating systems cleaned and inspected; check smoke alarms and replace batteries; keep live Christmas trees watered; and refrain from overloading electrical circuits with holiday decorations.Honor rollThe names of Takota Kromer and Kaitlyn Bender were inadvertently omitted from the list of students who earned honor roll status at the Tamaqua Elementary School.Both are third-grade students who earned High Honors.RecyclingWednesday is the day for curbside recycling pickup for all residents of Tamaqua.All recyclable items must be placed in the containers issued to each borough household. Any other containers, such as plastic bags and cardboard boxes, will be emptied and left behind.Anyone who needs a recycling container may contact borough hall at (570) 668-3444.Collection bins for cardboard have been moved to the Tamaqua Transfer Station on Sewage Treatment Plant Road.Collection bins for newspaper can be found at the Tamaqua Borough Garage on East Broad Street.
