A Tamaqua man has been cited for driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol following a traffic stop in the borough on Oct. 10.

Officers were conducting traffic enforcement measures at 10:20 a.m. when a 1993 Mercedes was clocked traveling 65.5 miles-per-hour in a 45 zone on SR309, near the intersection with Owl Creek Rd. The driver of the Mercedes was identified as William G. Myers, 27, of 303 Washington st.The officer noted a strong odor of alcohol coming from Myers and the interior of the car. The driver was given three field sobriety tests, which he failed. He was then given a portable breath test which registered a .205 blood alcohol content, more than twice the legal limit of .08 percent.Myers was cited for DUI and speeding.
