Pair facing burglary and related offenses

Two men have been charged with burglary and related offenses after being caught in the act at Hegarty Towers, 101 Pine St., Tamaqua.

Tamaqua Police were dispatched to the apartment building at 11:08 p.m. for a reported burglary in progress. A male was reportedly in the building's basement.Surveillance footage showed two males enter the building, with one going down to the basement and the other going up the stairs. Officers found Nick DeAngelo of Tamaqua in the basement. When questioned, he reportedly admitted to being in the building to look for alcohol. When asked about the second man, DeAngelo told officers he had been accompanied by a Brandon Schearer.After being taken into custody, DeAngelo admitted the second man was actually Christopher Weston, who resides at Hegarty Towers. Officers returned to the building at 1:30 p.m. and took Weston into custody.Both men were arraigned before duty District Magistrate Stephen Bayer, Tamaqua. Bail for both was set at $25,000. Neither man was able to post the required 10 percent. Both were incarcerated in the Schuylkill County Prison.
