December has made its presence known.

Yesterday morning, howling winds that were accompanied by heavy rains caused widespread power outages.This morning, the temperature was cold enough to cause runoff to freeze in some locations, creating icy conditions. This led to numerous accidents.An accident blamed on ice happened at about 7 a.m. on the Wash Shanty Curve (Route 209) in Nesquehoning. A pickup truck went off the road and came to rest on its side. The driver wasn't injured.Police said the road was slippery and summoned PennDOT for anti-skid materials.At about 7:30 a.m., there were two accidents in Lower Towamensing Township of which ice is believed to have played a role.One occurred on Hahn's Dairy Road when a vehicle struck a tree. One person was injured in that accident.A two-vehicle accident happened on the Little Gap Highway, during which one vehicle came to rest on its side. No serious injuries were reported.Following both accidents, road crews were dispatched to salt the roadways.Motorists are urged to use caution tomorrow as the potential exists for light snow throughout the day. The National Weather Service says it is difficult to know exactly how much snow will fall, since it will depend on the track of the storm. Initially, only up to about an inch was expected.The Weather Service also says the next chance of significant precipitation will happen Tuesday night into Wednesday, but it appears that will be a combination of both rain and snow.
