The Lehighton baseball team, the Lehighton girls track and field team, and the Jim Thorpe tennis squad all captured victories yesterday afternoon.

BASEBALL

ES North-Lehighton

Lehighton improved to 4-2 (2-1 MVC) on the season with a 5-3 Mountain Valley Conference victory over East Stroudburg North.

Four Indians had two hits on the day with Jacen Nalesnik (one run, two RBI) wielding the big stick with a two-run home run in the third inning (his second homer of the season). James Farano (two runs, one triple), Josh Kern (one run, one RBI) and Nick Hill (one RBI) were Lehighton's other multiple-hitters.

Anthony Rossino struck out six in picking up the win on the mound, while James Farano came on in the seventh for the save.

For East Stroudsburg North (1-4, 0-3), Winston Folkes and Evan Byrne had two hits apiece.

ES North-Lehighton

East Stroudsburg North plated five runs in the third and fifth innings, en route to a 13-10 Mountain Valley Conference victory over Lehighton.

Amanda Diener had three hits and three runs to pace East Stroudsburg North.

For Lehighton (1-5, 0-3), Jocelyn Hunsicker had three hits and two runs, while Kelsey Andrews contributed two hits (including a triple), three runs and three RBI.

TENNIS

Pottsville-Jim Thorpe

After losing two out of three singles matches, Jim Thorpe rallied by sweeping doubles play for a 3-2 victory over Pottsville.

Lou Squillace posted a straight-set singles victory for the Olympians, while the doubles tandems of Kyle Lawrence/Shane Bleicher-Otto and Avery Magill/Luke Eggert also came away victorious.

With the win, Jim Thorpe improves to 4-6 on the season.

Moravian Academy remained undefeated on the season (8-0) with a 5-0 shutout over Palmerton.

Zach Shaff, Madhav Sekar and Andrew Ma scored straight-set singles victories for the Lions.

With the loss, Palmerton falls to 6-3 on the year.

The Lehighton girls won 12 of 18 events, including all three relays, en route to a 104-46 Mountain Valley Conference victory over East Stroudsburg North. Gwen Remaley (shot put, discus) and Jen Beers (800, 3200) were multiple-event winners for the Lady Indians (2-1, 2-1). Remaley's throw of 108-5 in the discus is a new TIMES NEWS area best, breaking her previous mark of 97-10 set on March 26 against Pocono Mountain East.

In the boys meet, East Stroudsburg North captured 13 of 18 events and defeated Lehighton by a score of 98-52.

Although he finished second in the 100 (by two one-hundredths of a second), Montero Thompson's time of 11.05 is a new TIMES NEWS area best (breaking his previous top time of 11.29). With the loss, Lehighton remains winless at 0-3, 0-3.

Tamaqua-Blue Mountain

Blue Mountain managed a sweep of Tamaqua in Schuylkill League Division I action.

The Eagles won the boys meet by a 100-50 score, while the girls grabbed a 111-39 victory.

Tyler Hope was a triple winner for the Raiders in the 100, 200 and javelin. He was also part of the winning 400-relay team.

Christine Streisel was a double winner for the Lady Raiders, winning the shot put and javelin.
