Slatington Public Library sponsors summer reading incentive program

The Slatington Public Library will sponsor a summer reading incentive program for children ages 4-12.

The library is committed to community literacy. We know reading is a necessary skill, and we want our children, ages 4-12, to have some fun while they continue to read during the summer months when school is not in session. Our reading incentive program, "Growing a Garden of Readers" runs from June 9 through August 18, and is a fun way for children to read and be recognized. In order to participate, you only need to join the library, borrow a book, complete a book response form, and color a paper flower for display in the library. You do not need to attend the kick-off and closing events to participate.Book response forms are available in the library, and on the library's website. Flower templates are available at the librarian's desk, and include a space for child's name and title of book. Our goal is to adorn our library with lots of flowers. Participants select a nearly new or gently used book for every 10 books they read.Parents and children, please join us at the library on June 9 from 10-11:30 a.m. as we kick off our summer reading incentive program. Our kick-off event includes a story, minitour of the library, featured books for summer reading, and membership sign-ups. A special guest will provide us with some gardening basics, and all participants will select and pot a plant.Sign-ups are preferred (call 610-767-6461), and parents are welcome to accompany their children. On Aug. 18, from 10-11:30 a.m., we will have a special readers' celebration event for all our "Growing a Garden of Readers" participants. Mark your calendars.Google "Slatington Public Library", or call us at (610) 767-6461 for more information.
