Crash claims teen

A Schuylkill County teen, a senior at Tamaqua Area High School, was killed in a one-vehicle crash late Friday night. State police at Frackville said the crash occurred about 10 p.m. along Wildcat Road, in Walker Township.

Troopers said Sabrina Hill, 17, of New Ringgold, was driving a 2001 Saturn SCI southbound and negotiating a slight turn when the car crossed over into the northbound lane and onto the berm. The car's front end then collided into a tree.Hill was transported to a nearby landing zone and a PennStar helicopter flew her to St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill, where she was pronounced dead.A passenger, Lucas Smith, 19, of Tamaqua, sustained a minor injury, troopers said.Hill, who would have turned 18 today, had just left the Tamaqua football game and chose to go through Lewistown Valley to avoid traffic in Tamaqua.Troopers said Hill and Smith were not wearing seat belts. Damages were termed heavy to the car.Assisting at the scene were Tamaqua ambulance personnel and volunteers from the Tamaqua Rescue Squad and Walker Township Fire Company.Hill's obituary appears on page 4.
