St. Matthew's

This Sunday, Dec. 4, the Rev. Dr. Scott Brooks Cope, Director of Pastoral Care at Phoebe Ministries, will be the supply pastor.

There will be a Blue Christmas service on Monday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. for those who may be feeling a big "blue" this holiday season. Perhaps you are grieving a loved one or the pain of a lost relationship, job or health. Come to the service for some healing grace. The Rev. John Dech will be the supply pastor.

Celebrate the Christmas Season with the Live Nativity. The Live Nativity participants will participate in the parade on Dec. 2 at 5:30 p.m. on Broadway. Then they will reenact the first nativity at Acorn Court behind Chatelaine's jewelry, 81 Broadway, throughout the night. Please bring your family and join them for this Christmas tradition.

Following the parade, the tree lighting ceremony will take place in the Josiah White Park at 6 p.m.

The monthly meeting of the board of directors for the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network will take place at 9 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 1, at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville.

Band parents

Pleasant Valley Band Parents are slated to meet at 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 1, at the high school in Brodheadsville.

Monroe Seniors

Youth group

There is no St. Matthew's UCC youth group meeting on Friday, Nov. 25. It will meet again on Friday, Dec. 2 at 5 p.m.


St. Matthew's UCC invites you to a Homecoming on Sunday, Nov. 27 at 9 a.m. Bring a Christmas ornament to deck the tree and listen to the music of "The Master's Touch," a local singing group. After the service, stay and enjoy brunch and some fellowship.

Salem St. Paul's Lutheran Church

Personal Care Kits are being assembled by Salem St. Paul's Lutheran Church's Sunday School, Kresgeville, for Lutheran World Relief to distribute to people in disaster areas.

Each kit will contain: one dark colored bath-size towel, two bath-size bars of soap in original wrapping, one adult-size toothbrush in original wrapping, one sturdy comb, one metal nail clipper with attached file. Please collect and donate as many items as you can.

Bring the items to church during the month of November and put them in a collection box in the lobby.

Donation given

Alyse Mitten, from the Mid-Atlantic Community Papers Association was the speaker at the Western Pocono Lions Club meeting last week. Several members of the Western Pocono Lioness Club attended. Members of both groups judged the advertising for the association's annual competition last year, which Lions Club members had done by themselves previously.

In recognition of their service to the association, Mitten presented a check to the Lions for the Lions Clubs International Foundation.

Recycling Day

Eldred Township is holding an Electronic and Universal Waste Recycling Day on Saturday, Nov. 19 from 9 a.m. until noon at the Eldred Township municipal building. There are no fees for telephones, cell phones, bundled cardboard, keyboards/mice, cables and cords. Minimal fees apply to certain items for the recycling cost of hazardous or data sensitive material such as computer monitors, washers, dryers, stoves, air conditioners, televisions. Blood drive today

The Western Pocono Lions Club, in cooperation with the American Legion, Gilbert, is holding an American Red Cross blood drive today at the Legion post home from 1:30-6 p.m. Walk-in donors are welcome.

The club will hold its regular meeting at 7 p.m. at Ye Olde Saylors Inn, with special guest Alyse Mitten speaking on the judging of free community newspapers.

Veterans Day observance

On Sunday, Nov. 13, St. Matthew's UCC 9 a.m. church service will be totally devoted to honoring and thanking the men and women who have served our country.

Everyone is invited to attend asked to wear something red, white and blue.

Lions double duty

On Wednesday, Nov. 16, members of the Western Pocono Lions Club will be doing double duty. During the day, the club will be hosting a blood drive for the American Red Cross with cooperation from the American Legion in Gilbert, where the drive is being held. Hours are from 1:30 to 6 p.m.

Registration may be made at (570) 823-7164, ext. 2108, but walk-ins are welcome.

In the evening, the club will hold its regular meeting at Ye Olde Saylors Inn in Saylorsburg, beginning with a social time at 6:30 p.m.
