Artists of the month

February Elementary Artists of the Month were recently announced.

At Franklin Elementary School, students are: fourth grade, Isaiah Everett; third grade, Kaitlyn Solomon; second grade, Molly Mihalko; first grade, Isabella Hoffman; and kindergarten, Edie Cordes.

At East Penn Elementary School, students are: fourth grade, Emily Kleintop; third grade, Colton Bachman; second grade, Alaina Strohl; first grade, Tret Solt; and kindergarten, Logan Gerhart.

Looking good

The American Cancer Society will host Look Good, Feel Better makeover workshops from 4-6 p.m., March 28, at St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital's Board Room, Coaldale, and at the Schuylkill Medical Center South, 420 S. Jackson St., Pottsville.

The sessions are free and open to all local female cancer patients actively undergoing cancer treatment.

During the session, trained cosmetologists will meet with patients to discuss ways of using makeup and accessories to minimize appearance-related side effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatment.

Special speaker

Tammy Graeber recently spoke at Effort UMC about how her project, The Garden of Giving, came to be and what needs the outreach project has now, including board members, funds and other volunteers.

A PowerPoint presentation highlighted the happenings at the McMichaels garden last year, including volunteers at work planting and harvesting. Over 6,000 ears of corn were among the gifts to area food pantries and soup kitchens.

Camera Club

The Palmerton Camera Club will meet at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, March 24, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton. The topic for the evening will be taking photos with your cell phone.

Lenten services

Jerusalem UCC, Jerusalem Lutheran Church, St. Matthew's UCC, Salem UCC, and Salem-St. Paul Lutheran will gather together for midweek Lenten Services.

Chestnut Ridge Seniors

The Chestnut Ridge Seniors will meet on Thursday, March 24 at 11 a.m. at the Kunkletown Vol. Fire Company. Bring a bag lunch and any items you might like to donate to the Chinese auction.

Lenten service

The next Lenten service will be on Wednesday, March 23 at Jerusalem United Church of Christ in Trachsville. The guest preacher will be the Rev. Deborah Scheffey. There will be soup and sandwiches from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The church will provide the soup. You should bring your own sandwich. The service will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Summit Hill

Methodist Charge

The schedule for the Coaldale/Summit Hill United Methodist Charge for Sunday, March 20, is as follows:

Worship services will be held at 9 a.m. in the Summit Hill United Methodist Church and at 11 a.m. in the Coaldale United Methodist Church. The Rev. Burgess Gordon, pastor, will officiate at both services.

The adult Sunday school will be held at 9:45 a.m. in the Coaldale church.

A free will offering for the Conference Congo program will be received.

Bloodmobile

The next American Red Cross Bloodmobile visit to Tamaqua will be on March 30. The Salvation Army gym will be turned into a blood collection center. Hours will be from 1-6 p.m.

Anyone 17 or older, who weighs at least 110 pounds and is in general good health is eligible to donate blood. Donor cards or proper identification will be required.

Appointments for donors can be made by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS.

Walk for life

Care Net of Tamaqua, an organization providing services to pregnant women, plans to open an office in Tamaqua, at 223 E. Broad St.

Pleasant Valley Elementary PTO

The monthly PTO meeting will be held on Thursday, March 17 at 4 p.m. in the school cafeteria. All are welcome to attend.

Family Fun Night

Pleasant Valley Elementary will have a Family Fun night on Friday, March 18 from 6-7:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. All students of PVE and their families are welcome to attend.

Polk PTO Meeting

Polk Elementary School will have a PTO Meeting on Thursday, March 24 at 4 p.m. Parents of Polk students are invited to come and share their ideas. Baby-sitting is available.

Eyeglass donations accepted

Lehighton Area Lioness Lions Club is accepting donations of used eyeglasses.

There are containers in several locations and they are checked regularly.

The donation sites and the number donated thus far are as follows: Lehighton Hi-rise, two; Mallard Market, two; Wachovia Bank, 15; Gnaden Huetten Hospital, 15; for a total to 34 pairs.

Lansford

Driver safety

The Outreach Committee of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford, will sponsor a driver safety course on Saturdays, April 2 and 9, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the church hall.

The class will be presented by the A.A.R.P. and will include eight-hours of instructions presented in two four-hour sessions.

The class is designed for those attending for the first time and those desiring a more in-depth presentation.

Those 50 and older are encouraged to attend the classroom-only course.
