Panther Valley School District has scheduled parent/teacher conferences on Nov. 10, 11 and 12 in the afternoon.

The following schedule will accommodate parents who have work or personal commitments in the day: Nov. 10 at the elementary school from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m., Nov. 11, at the middle school and high school from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 5:30 to 8 p.m.

The goal is to form a home/school partnership, where there is a cooperative relationship between the parent and teacher to help the child achieve success.

PAHS plans birthday event

Palmerton Area Historical Society will celebrate its 20th birthday at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, in the Knight's Gallery of the Palmerton Area Library.

The PowerPoint program is entitled, "A Trip Down Memory Lane: the History of the Society."

Refreshments will be served.

The event is open to the public.

St. Matthew's needs baked goods

St. Matthew's UCC is looking for donations of baked goods and Chinese auction items for the bazaar on Nov. 6. If you can bring baked goods by 9 a.m. that morning, it would be greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please contact Loretta at 610-381-3037.

Chestnut Ridge Seniors

The Chestnut Ridge Seniors will meet on Thursday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at the Kunkletown Vol. Fire Co. It will be celebrating with a Thanksgiving meal of hot roast beef sandwiches. They need volunteers to bring dessert and they will be playing Bingo.

Summit Hill

Methodist Charge

Harvest Home will be observed on Sunday, Nov. 7, by the two congregations of the Coaldale /Summit Hill United Methodist Charge.

The service in the Summit Hill church will be held at 9 a.m., followed by the service at 11 o'clock in the Coaldale church.

The Rev. Burgess Gordon will officiate at both services.

Members of both congregations are asked to bring canned goods and nonperishable food items for the service.

The items will be donated to the local food bank.

VFW auxiliary

VFW Post 8008, Nesquehoning, will meet at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 9, at the post home. President Amanda Breiner will preside.

Anyone attending the Veterans Day Parade in Palmerton on Sunday, Nov. 7 should be at the post home by noon on Sunday.

Cub Scout meeting

Lansford Cub Scout Pack 737 will meet at the American Legion, Post 123 on the lower level (entrance on Tunnel Street) on Tuesday, Nov. 9, at 6:15 p.m.

Any boy, first through fifth grade, who wants to join may still register.

TEPTO

The Tamaqua Elementary Parent Teacher Organization met Oct. 12. Members discussed the book fair at the Rush Elementary School and numerous upcoming events.

Orders for the candle sale are due by Nov. 18 and the Butter Braid fundraiser pick up will be Nov. 19, from 6-7 p.m., in the Tamaqua Elementary School Library. A school dance will be held Nov. 19, 7-9 p.m., for students in grades three, four and five.

Pictures with Santa will be on Nov. 19, from 6-8 p.m., in the school library. The public is welcome.

The Panther Valley Public Library will hold a meeting at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 9 for those who wish to volunteer. The library, 117 E. Bertsch St., Lansford, is also holding story time from 10-11 a.m. Tuesdays.

Salem St. Paul's Church

Sunday, Nov. 7 is a Food Offering for PVEN (local food pantry) at Salem St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Needed for holiday bags: canned vegetables, yams and gravy, boxed stuffing, cake mix and icing, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, Mr. Z's food cards and/or turkeys. You can drop off your items before or after SSP's church service on Sunday.

Rush-Ryan seniors

The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met Oct. 26 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 43 members in attendance. President Eleanor Schmerfeld conducted the business meeting. Chaplain Kathleen Valentine offered an invocation.

Reports were presented by treasurer Shirley Becker and secretary Florina Martin.

Florina Martin and Shirley Becker provided inspirational readings. The annual Christmas party will be held Dec. 14, catered by Christy Joy.
