The Jim Thorpe Halloween Parade will be held on Sunday, Oct. 31. Everyone in the community is invited to march in the parade. Blessing of animals

There will be a Blessing of the Animals at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3 at Grace Lutheran Church, 115 S. Fourth St., Lehighton.

Those bringing pets must make sure the pets are either caged or leashed and up-to-date on vaccinations.

Lehighton Area Democrats meet Oct. 6

The Lehighton Area Democrats will meet at Johnnie's Pizza at 100 N. 1st St. in downtown Lehighton next to the Democratic Election Center.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 6.

The Club is under the new leadership of President Gary Parker.

Owl Creek Halloween

The Owl Creek Reservoir Commission has set the dates for its annual Fall Foliage/Halloween Festival. This year's event will be held Oct. 23-24, beginning at noon each day.

In addition to hayrides around the reservoir, activities will include a hay maze, pumpkin painting, scarecrow and pumpkin photos, face painting, marshmallow roasting and more. The hayrides will run until 11 p.m. on Saturday (haunted after dusk) and to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Food and refreshments will also be available.

Rain dates will be Oct. 30-31.

The Jim Thorpe Area Democratic Association will hold its pre-election meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 13, at 7 p.m. in the small conference room of the Inn at Jim Thorpe.

All District 3 (Jim Thorpe, Penn Forest and Kidder South) committee persons are encouraged to attend this important meeting.

Area chair and Jim Thorpe club president Edith Lukasevich will preside at the session.

Summit Hill

Boy Scout troop

Boy Scout Troop 743, Summit Hill, is seeking new members. The troop meeting room is located in the Summit Hill Heritage Center in a room designed, remodeled and maintained by the troop.

The scouts meet each Sunday night at 6-8 o'clock at the center, which is the former St. Paul UCC Church, Hazard and Chestnut streets.

All boys ages 11-18, or in the fifth grade or higher, are invited to register.

Getz Personal Care Home will be sponsoring a blood drive on Sunday, Oct. 10, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Getz is located on Rt. 534 in Kunkletown.

Writers' group

The Black Diamond Writers' Network will meet Oct. 16, from 10 a.m. until noon, at the Tamaqua Public Library, 30 S. Railroad St. Guest speaker will be Kelly Ann Butterbaugh, whose topic will be "copywriting."

The public is welcome to attend. The group also holds mini critiques during their meetings. Local authors are welcome to bring a page of their unpublished work for review.

The BDWN is a nonprofit organization offering writing education and networking opportunities.

The group meets the third Saturday of every month.

Bloodmobile

An American Red Cross Bloodmobile, held in Tamaqua on Sept. 23, collected 42 units of blood. The visit was sponsored by the Alpha Theta Masters Sorority.

Volunteers who assisted with the event included: Bob and Dolly Shirey, Jean Stephens, Claudette Zarra, Joan Camerini, Sara Jane Bensinger, Jean Tonkin, Robert and Darlene Zeckam.

The social hall at St. John United Church of Christ was converted into a blood collection center through the efforts of Randy Gormley, Jack Quinn, Jack Rarick, Joe Rimm and Michael Trubilla.

PV alumni

The Panther Valley Alumni Association will be holding it annual "Meet and Greet" Reunion of all PV graduating classes immediately following the PV-Schuylkill Haven game on Friday, Oct. 1. Members eat and drink for free. Guests are welcome.

Donations are also being accepted at PVAA, P.O. Box 32, Nesquehoning, PA 18240. All proceeds go into a scholarship fund.
