Monroe man facing rape charges

A Monroe County man is facing multiple sexual offenses including rape.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said Emilio Romero Jr., 40, of Tobyhanna, has been charged in connection with an incident on June 22.Police said on that date they responded to a residence along Kensington Drive in Tobyhanna for a reported rape. The victim told officers that she was sexually assaulted while being held at gunpoint.Detectives executed a search warrant at the residence and seized a Beretta replica pistol, multiple concealed surveillance cameras and Xanex prescription pills.Upon completion of the investigation an arrest warrant for Romero was obtained and he was arrested when he attempted to return to the residence.He was arraigned before District Judge Brian Germano, of Marshals Creek, on charges of rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, attempted indecent assault, aggravated indecent assault, sexual assault, criminal use of a communication device, all felonies; and misdemeanor counts of terroristic threats, possessing instruments of crime, simple assault and possession of a controlled substance.Germano set bail at $200,000, which Romero could not post, and he was committed to the county prison in Snydersville. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 28 before DJ Anthony Fluegel, of Tobyhanna.
