Schuylkill state park events

Several events have been announced for Tuscarora and Locust Lake state parks in Barnesville, Schuylkill County.

Three are scheduled for Saturday.• Naturalist Robin Tracey will lead a hike on the Oak Loop trail at Locust Lake. The hike is 4 miles long and difficult. The trail loops around Locust Creek and traverses up the mountain for a really great view of the forest below.Part of the hike includes "tree identification trail" created by one of the area Eagle Scouts. Dogs are welcome but must be leashed and get along with other pets and people.Meet at the visitor parking lot at 10 a.m. Shine only.• The second event is scheduled for 3 p.m. for a dive demonstration presented by the Ryan Township Emergency Rescue Dive Team. The program will be held in the south boat launch parking lot.There will be a demonstration on protective gear and the divers will enter the water with a wireless communicator and underwater video camera. Spectators will be able to talk to the divers underwater and view what the divers see on an underwater camera monitor. The program will end with a water safety class. Shine only. Call Tracey at 570-467-2506.• The third event has participants joining Tom Powers for a program on the native reptiles and amphibians of Pennsylvania. The program will be held at the Locust Lake amphitheater starting at 6 p.m.He will talk about their habitat and diet. Some live animals will be on hand. In case of inclement weather, the program will be held in the program shelter located near the camp store.• OnAug. 2, join park naturalist from Tuscarora park at 10:30 a.m. for a spectacular hike to Wolf Creek Falls in Saint Clair. Participants will meet in the north end of the Walmart parking lot off Route 61 in the Coal Creek Commerce Center.This hike is 7 miles and rated difficult. The hike is dog friendly, but all pets must be leashed and get along with people and other pets. Bring water and a lunch.Due to limited space, registration is required by contacting Tracey.
