Miss Poppy, Legion Mascot chosen

The Palmerton United Veterans Organization has chosen Paige Cronk as this year's Miss Poppy. Paige, 9, is a third-grader at S.S. Palmer Elementary School.

She is the daughter of John and Ann Marie Cronk and granddaughter of Joe and Sue Uhnak of Palmerton and Dave and Pat Cronk of Allentown. She will be joining her grandfather Joe Uhnak, an active UVO member, in the parade and services on Memorial Day. Uhnak also serves as first vice commander at the Legion Post 269 in Palmerton. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War."It's a real honor representing the veterans who died in the wars," Cronk said.This year's Legion Mascot is Noah Sell, 10, a fourth-grader at S.S. Palmer. He is the son of Rob and Holly Sell and grandson of Bob and Jenny Sell of Palmerton and Barry and Phyllis Hausman of Walnutport.When asked about being chosen to be Legion Mascot, Noah said, "It feels great! It honors people like my grandfather who is a Navy Seabee Veteran and remembers those who died like my great-uncle Skeeter."Noah Clifford "Skeeter" Sell was killed in action during Vietnam while serving in the Army.
