Twelve Times News area teams will be participating in the District 11 playoffs, which begin today.

Four schools - Northwestern, Palmerton, Pleasant Valley, and Tamaqua - will have both their baseball and softball teams competing in the postseason.The rest of the clubs competing for a district title include Lehighton, Marian, and Panther Valley in baseball, and Northern Lehigh in softball.Northwestern and Marian both earned top seeds in the baseball brackets. The Tigers, however, do not receive any byes. They will face eighth-seeded Lehighton in a Class AAA quarterfinal game on Tuesday.The Colts, meanwhile, have already clinched a berth in the championship game. With just three Class A teams in the bracket, Tony Radocha's club awaits the winner of the semifinal match-up of Shenandoah Valley and Tri-Valley.In softball, the area's top seed is Tamaqua - second in Class AA.
