Summit Hill council names EMA coordinator

Several appointments were made by Summit Hill Borough Council on Monday, including a new Emergency Management Agency coordinator for the borough and a new face on the borough's Water Authority.

Kevin Steber was named the EMA coordinator, succeeding John Allesch, who moved out of the area.Five people applied for the position. Besides Steber, they are Edward Nunemacher, James D. Smith, Charles Byers and Joseph Bohovich.Steber is a sales engineer in the pumper/tanker group at KME Fire Apparatus in Nesquehoning.He is active in the Diligence Fire Company in Summit Hill and in 2012 was named Firefighter of the Year.He is the husband of Kira Steber, borough secretary.The position has a salary of $300 per year.Wayne Gryzik was appointed to the borough's Water Authority on a 5-2 vote of the council.Unsuccessfully seeking reappointment was Edward Kruzik.Voting for Gryzik were Council President Jesse Walck, Michael Alabovitz, Greg Kosciolek, John O'Gurek and Michael Kokinda. Opposed were William O'Gurek and Bill Chapman.The Water Authority is scheduled for dissolution on June 1 when the borough is scheduled to take it over. It will then become the Summit Hill Water Department.Stanley Karnish was reappointed to a five-year term on the Coaldale-Lansford-Summit Hill Joint Sewer Authority Board.Four other applicants sought the appointment. They are George Ruzicka, Nicholas Uszaki, Charles Byers and Larry Consoli.Other appointments by the council were:• Bill Chapman, president pro tem.• Kira Steber, secretary-treasurer.• Jim Thorpe National Bank and Pennsylvania Local Government Investment Trust, depositories.• Attorney Michael Greek, solicitor.• Carbon Engineering of Summit Hill, borough engineer.• Joseph Fittos Jr., chief of police.• Shawn Hoben, fire chief.• William Kirklosky, zoning officer at the rate of $15 per hour.• Scott Beiber, sewage enforcement officer, and William Brior, sewage enforcement alternate.• Attorney Michael Garfield, zoning hearing board and planning commission solicitor.
