Mountain Karate opens new location

Their first dojang opened in Lehighton in 2007.

Then in 2012, they opened a second one in TannersvilleAnd now, Mountain Karate Academy has opened its third location, this time at 636 Delaware Ave. in Palmerton.The organization recently celebrated its opening with a party in the former Now and Then Antiques shop, the site of the new karate dojang, and in the parking area of Terry's Winner's Circle, which continues to do business in the rear of the building.Music was provided by Band of Brothers, a Classic Rock group. Master Kevin Kresge, one of Mountain Karate's instructors, is the bass player with the band. Crowds gathered for the free music and complimentary food, and to tour the new dojang.Mountain Karate Academy administrator Sharyl Maglionico said the group is excited about its new location."Martial arts can be so beneficial to children and adults, helping them to gain confidence, focus, discipline, respect, fitness and self-defense skills," Maglionico said. "Nothing compares to the martial arts for building better people. We are so pleased to be able to offer a family-friendly martial arts academy to the community."Mountain Karate has nine master instructors, including one grand master, in addition to numerous other black belts to assist in class.In addition to Korean karate, Mountain Karate also offers jujitsu, taught by grand master Lee Lesisko, who is a national champion, and his assistant, instructor Jen Lesisko.Other masters on staff are Paul Maglionico, Rich Maglionico, John Fagliarone, Rich Gross, Steve Meining, Bernard Pfeiffer, Kevin Kresge and Jan Kresge.Some other programs that are or will soon be available are straight path karate, a special program for troubled youth which will be led by Pfeiffer; special needs karate; shake, wiggle and roll (an exercise class) led by Jan Kresge; and yoga, led by instructor Traye Lovejoy.The academy offers group lessons in stranger danger and bullying avoidance and has demonstrated at many local schools.The first class is always complimentary. The worldwide association has membership in over 73 countries.Mountain Karate will celebrate its 25th year of membership with the EUSAIMAA next year.
