Nesquehoning Historical Society reorganizes

Nesquehoning residents want to make sure the borough's rich history is preserved.

That's why a group has reorganized the Nesquehoning Historical Society.During a recent meeting of the group, 17 members gathered to talk about artifacts that have been collected, the possibility of finding a location for everything and to simply share memories of the past.Tim Sverduk, president of the historical society, said the group started the historical society, which had been active in the 1990s but became defunct years ago, because there is so much history that is being lost to time.Membership to the society is $5, and Sverduk is urging all residents to join.Eventually, he said, the group hopes to take everything they have gathered and find a building to create a museum. The historical society is led by Sverduk, vice president Mark Gilkeson, secretary Mary Fox and treasurer Grace Gilkeson. The group is currently accepting monetary donations and historical items.Donations can be made payable to the Nesquehoning Historical Society and sent to Nesquehoning Historical Society, 114 W. Catawissa St., Nesquehoning, PA 18240.For donations of items, either contact a member of the society or call Sverduk at 609-750-0132 or email
