Six local boys teams knock down wins

All six local boys' basketball teams that were in action prevailed over the weekend, as Lehighton, Marian, Pleasant Valley, Tamaqua, Jim Thorpe and Northwestern notched wins.

Gauntlet TourneyPleasant Valley finished second, while Northwestern Lehigh was third in the Gauntlet Turnament held at Blue Mountain on Friday.The host Eagles won the six-team tournament.Pleasant Valley defeated Northwestern Lehigh 40-37, Crestwood 54-24, Hughesville 52-21 and Allen 51-24.The Bears lone loss was to Blue Mountain by a 39-32 score.Besides falling to the Bears, Northwestern Lehigh lost to Blue Mountain 40-30, but defeated Hughesville 42-32, Allen 39-35 and Crestwood 40-34.Anthony McCue won all four matches he wrestled at 138 for the Bears, while Jason Jacobi, Trevor Dorn, Trent Thomas and Brody Keefe all finished 5-0 winning all of their matches for the Bears.Baily Wehr, Quentin Bernhard, Jarrett White and Alexander Russo won all five matches they wrestled for the Tigers.Pleasant Vy.-PM EastPocono Mountain East rattled off six straight individual matches to pull out a 43-30 win over Pleasant Valley.For the Bears, John Klein (120), Brody Keefe (182) and Trent Thomas (220) all notched pins. Both swimmers took first in two of their individual events, while DeCindio was also a part of two winning relay teams. Kanaskie was on one triumphant relay team, as well.Other Lady Raider swimmers that faired well were Abigail Brickler, winner of the 100 free event, and Olivia Stanek, first in the 100 back.Ben Turrano led the Blue Raider boys with two individual first place finishes, as well, taking the 50 free and the 100 fly.
