Drug trafficking trial begins

A Delano man went on trial this morning in Schuylkill County court on charges of alleged traffic in illegal drugs.

In other court matters juries returned verdicts on Tuesday in two criminal cases.Drug countsFred S. Willlams, of 30 Walnut St., who is celebrating his 51st birthday today, went on trial before a jury in the courtroom of Judge John E. Domalakes on charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in Mahanoy City, possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct brought by Cpl. Michael Dissinger.Also attached for trial this morning was the case against Steve Allen Lucas, of 422 E. Main St., Hegins, Hegins Township, who faces two counts each of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, simple assault causing bodily injury with a deadly weapon, and recklessly endangering another person brought by Trooper John Sleboda.VerdictEddie J. Hardison, 33, of Sharon, was found guilty by a jury of simple assault on Denise Walton, of Girardville, which occurred last Nov. 17 in the 200 block on N. Centre St. Patrolman Kirk A. Becker, Pottsville, filed the charge. Judge James P. Goodman deferred sentencing to a later date.Pleads guiltyJoseph Michael Evans, 47, of 420 Ridge St., Orwigsburg, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol and was sentenced to serve 48 hours to six months, pay a fine of $500, pay $50 to Criminal Justice Enhancement Account, $50 to Mcare fund, $72.50 to Health Network Lab, a $50 monthly probation fee, attend the alcohol highway safety school, receive outpatient counseling, license suspended for a year, and perform 10 hours of community service. Evans was cited by Trooper John B. Carr when stopped last Feb. 1 on Ridge Road in North Manheim Township.Drop chargesDistrict Attorney Karen Byrnes Noon filed motions to drop criminal charges against Sher Khban of Stroudsburg, Sher Khban of Stroudsburg, formerly of Brooklyn, N.Y., who was charged with passing a bad check to Boyer's Market in Tamaqua. President Judge William E. Baldwin granted the motion and signed an order to dismiss charges because Khban paid the amount.
