State police at Frackville reported on two crashes, including a hit-and-run, troopers investigated this week in Schuylkill County.
A one-vehicle crash occurred about 3:05 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 30, along SR924 in East Union Township. Troopers said Gary C. Reed, 52, of Shenandoah, was driving a 1996 Jeep Cherokee southbound and entering a slight left curve in the road. Reed was distracted as he reached for an item in the vehicle. The Jeep traveled southwest off the road and impacted with a ditch. After that impact the Jeep struck a large boulder, then spun counter-clockwise and came to rest off the road.
Reed was extricated from the Jeep by emergency personnel and taken to the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, for treatment of a moderate injury, troopers said. Damages to the Jeep were heavy to the front end.
The hit-and-run was reported about 10:52 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2, along Broad Street, in New Castle Township. Troopers said a vehicle was driven northbound at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control while trying to avoid another vehicle.
The vehicle struck a fence at 223 Broad St., owned by Thomas Cooper III. After striking the fence the driver backed up and fled the scene.
Troopers indicated the hit-and-run vehicle is a 1992 Dodge.
