William H. Wilhelm and Michael J. Hodor were successful candidates in the Jim Thorpe school director contest here, defeating Mrs. Evelyn Sellers Shanfelt, a Republican incumbent, and Frank A. Marzen, Democratic newcomer to the political arena.

Mrs. Wilhelm, president of the Mauch Chunk Trust Company, was high man in this voting, polling 1,264 votes. Hoder, a Democratic incumbent, was 106 behind with 1,158. Mrs. Sellers received 1,101 to Mr. Marzen's 1,099.

In the only other two contests of moment, Louis G. Kindred, a Democrat, defeated Republican Claude Mench for a council seat in the third ward, and Leo "Chubby" O'Donnell, also a Democrat, topped Kirby Channing, the Republican, in the Fourth Ward councilmanic race.
