Retail theft incidents probed

Two retail theft incidents, one in which the suspect was apprehended and the second in which the suspect was able to get away, were probed by state police at Schuylkill Haven over the weekend in Schuylkill County.

The arrest occurred at Boscov's Department store in the Fairlane Village Mall in Norwegian Township, on Friday, Oct. 2, about 3:30 p.m. Troopers said a 17-year-old female from Pottsville was caught taking two purses, two hooded sweatshirts, two sweaters and a t-shirt from the store without paying for the items. Total value of the items was $179.07.Troopers said a petition will be filed with the juvenile probation office.The second incident occurred at the Schuylkill Valley Sports store also in the Fairlane Village Mall. About 3:30-3:40 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3, a white male was observed leaving the store with merchandise and not paying for it. Store personnel ran after the suspect and grabbed his white t-shirt, which the male was able to slip out of. He also dropped the stolen merchandise as he fled through the parking lot without his shirt.The suspect is described as a young male, thin build, about five-feet, eight-inches tall with blonde hair and had on jean shorts.
