The Jim Thorpe Area School Board approved the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit proposed general operating budget for 2012-2013.

The general operating budget for the CLIU covers the executive director's office, curriculum/instruction office, educational technologies office, and maintenance.Executive Director at the CLIU, Dr. Elaine Eib stated that with the budget the total district contribution has not changed in three years. There will be no increase for JT school district for the 2012-2013 CLIU operating budget.In other news,John Marchione was approved as a volunteer for the Athletic Department.Superintendent Barbara Conway has been selected as a Pennsylvania Statewide Afterschool/Youth Development Network Afterschool Champion. Conway was selected because of her work with afterschool programs for children and youth, such as the SHINE program.In grades 7-12th, 24 students presented 25 science projects at the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science. There were 8 first place winners, 15 second place winners, and 2 third place winners. The first place winners will go on to compete at the state level.
