Fit Day benefits Tamaqua Salvation Army

Last month's Fit Day event in Tamaqua raised over $381 to benefit healthy eating programs at the Tamaqua Salvation Army. Seven students with Mrs. Thelma Urban's 11th grade Language Arts class held the event to address obesity and the importance of healthy eating. The day long event, which was held at the Tamaqua Elementary School upper fields, consisted of many community and healthy eating-related activities. Fit Day organizers were David Frederick, Troy Reinhardt, Martin Sedlock, Shane Mulligan, Dylan Houser, Joey Franko and Brandon Fogel. Standing next to a fitness food chart in the kitchen of the Salvation Army are key event organizer Martin Sedlock, 17, a Tamaqua junior and Salvation Army Major Sharon Whispell.
