The auxiliary operates the Owl's Nest gift shop in Palmerton Hospital and the Nearly New Shop on Delaware Avenue, in addition to other special events during the year, and turns the substantial proceeds over to the Hospital.

The Heritage Center is open various hours, Wednesday through Saturday, each week. Phone (610) 824-6954 for a recording listing the hours each day. Admission is free; donations are gratefully accepted.

Palmerton Lions to meet

Palmerton Lions will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 16 at the Fireline Hotel. Plans are under way for the club's participation in the Carbon County Fair in August.

Community members are reminded to donate used eyeglasses at Houser Newman Eye Associates, Walters Optometric, First National Bank, Citizens Bank, all located on Delaware Avenue in Palmerton and/or the Palmerton Area High School located on Fire Line Road or by giving them to any Lions member. Eyeglasses are recycled for those in other countries who are unable to afford corrective lenses.

In addition, anyone needing financial assistance with eyeglasses can contact committee chairman, Jim Sheckler at (610) 826.4533. There are financial guidelines that must be followed by all applicants and a written application must be completed and approved.

Any individual or business interested in learning more about Lionism or attending a club meeting may contact membership chairman Nick Hawkey at (610) 826-6465 or by email him at hawkeys@gmail.com.
