Beltzville State Park was closed to swimming yesterday after a water test showed bacteria levels higher than the state allows.
A brief statement on the park's website says:
"The swimming area at Beltzville Lake is currently closed as a precaution due to a bad water sample taken earlier this week. The park is in the process of having the water retested and we anticipate reopening swimming area in the near future."
Beltzville State Park is one of the top destinations in Carbon County for swimmers and boating enthusiasts.
The swimming area opened Memorial Day weekend and it was so crowded that the parking lots overflowed with vehicles, resulting in some illegally parked vehicles being towed.
High bacteria levels have closed the beach at the lake in the past.
Although swimming is forbidden, hiking, boating, and other recreational activities are not affected.
