Teen facing DUI, other counts

A teen is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) and other counts following an incident in Carbon County. State police at Lehighton said the incident began about 2:05 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13, along Berger St. and Pohopoco Drive, in Towamensing Township.

Troopers said Chaise P. Terruta, 18, of Kunkletown, was observed operating a 1997 Kia Sephia without the headlights on. Troopers attempted to pull him over but Terruta traveled north on Berger Street at a high rate of speed. He stopped at the intersection at N. Penn Forest Road., then exited his vehicle and attempted to flee on foot.A short foot pursuit ensued with Terruta ignoring commands to stop. He was stuck with an electronic incapacitation device (taser). He was taken into custody.He had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his person and was taken to the barracks where he submitted to a breath test.In addition to the DUI charge, Terruta will also be charged with fleeing and eluding police and various motor vehicle code violations.
