A one-vehicle crash shut down a busy Schuylkill County roadway for several hours on Tuesday afternoon.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said the accident occurred about 1:05 p.m. along SR209 in Port Carbon.

Troopers said Justin Michael Bumgardner, 26, of Lewistown, Mifflin County, was operating a 2005 International 4300 box truck southbound when he fell asleep at the wheel. The truck went onto the west berm where it struck a bridge abutment with the right side.

After impact the truck traveled clockwise in a southwest direction and came to final rest facing southwest in the south/northbound lanes of travel.

The truck spilled diesel fuel onto the road. Several fire companies from the area responded along with PennDOT employees and the representatives of the state Department of Environmental Protection to the fuel spilling.

Bumgardner was not injured in the crash, troopers said.
