Five property owners win assessment appeals

Five area property owners won their appeals as the Schuylkill County Assessment Appeals Board reduced the assessment on their properties for the 2010 tax period following hearings held in the Schuylkill County Courthouse.

Thomas Rockwell, 239 Mauch Chunk St., Tamaqua, had the market value reduced from $48,080 to $18,360 and the assessment from $24,040 to $9,180, a decrease of $14,860 in assessment.Ruben and Lillian Ortiz, 30 Hartung Lane, Barnesville, on property at 250 Columbia St., Tamaqua, had the market value reduced from $53,330 to $18,760 and assessment from $17,065 to $5,245, a decrease of $11,820 in assessment.Mark and Kelly Dirzulaitis, 45 Miner St., Coaldale, had the market value reduced from $34,130 to $10,490 and assessment from $17,065 to $5,245, a decrease of $11,820 in assessment.Michael J. Scott, 2137 Sunny Road, New Ringgold, on the property at 412 Washington St., Tamaqua, had the market value reduced from $62,100 to $12,770 and assessment from $31,050 to $6,385, a decrease of $24,665 in assessment.Paul Eggerling, 11 Audrey Lane, Jim Thorpe, on property at 158 1/2 Spruce St., Tamaqua, had the market value reduced from $27,230 to $12,090 and assessment from $13,660 to $6,9095, a decrease of $7,618 in assessment and on property at 451 Arlington St., Tamaqua, had the market value reduced from $29,770 to $15,160 and the assessment from $14,885 to $7,580, a decrease of $7,305 in assessment.On a service station property owned by PAS Real Estate Inc., Blakeslee, located at 1320 Morea Road, Mahanoy Township, the board ruled no change and retained the market value at $373,000 and assessment at $186,500.Blue Mountain AppealsBlue Mountain School District, in its fourth appearance before the appeals board this month, won appeals on 22 properties and added $472,519 to its district assessment totals. To date on 117 appeals it increased the district' s assessment by $2,4441,790 for 2010 tax period.Rulings on recent appeals were as follows:Peter Redmond, 75 Ricks Road, New Ringgold, market value increased from $152,060 to $219,450 and assessment from $76,030 to $109,725, an increase of $32,695 in assessment.Michael C. and Gareth M. Houk, 1197 Chestnut Road, Orwigsburg, market value increased from $102,050 to $219,450 and assessment from $76,030 to $109,725, an increase of $32,695 in assessment.Michael F. Grigalonis, 116 Schuylkill St,, Cressona, market value increased from $49,640 to $89,380 and assessment from $24,820 to $44,690, an increase of $19,870 in assessment.Edward R. Jansson, 2701 Village Road, Orwigsburg, market value increased from $60,420 to $83,790 and assessment from $30,210 to $41,895, an increasse of $11,685 in assessment.Nathaniel Decker and Dawn Hrte, 2045 Faoir Road, Summit Station, market value increased from $79,610 to $106,140 and assessment from $39,805 to $53,070, an increasse of $13,260 in assessment.Brett D.
