Roadway shutdown after Monroe accident

55 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 18, at the intersection of SR209 and Rodenbach Lane, in Chestnuthill Township.

State police at Fern Ridge said Ronald M. Garvey, 73, of Mamaroneck, N.Y., was attempting to enter or cross SR209 from Rodenbach Lane in a 2007 Nissan Sentra and failed to yield to a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Patrick J. McNally Jr., 36, of Palmerton, who was southbound on SR209.The left front side of McNally's truck was struck by the right front end of the Nissan. After impact the truck went onto the berm and struck a Frontier utility pole. A second impact snapped the pole in half, causing wire to hang onto the road. The truck came to rest in the Rite Aid parking lot while the Nissan came to rest next to it.West End and Jackson Township fire police and fire company personnel directed traffic around the scene until the road was reopened after four hours.Garvey and passenger June Garvey, 71, same address, and McNally were all not injured. Troopers cited Garvey for a stop sign violation.
