Weatherly Area High School alumni board meets

The Weatherly Area High School Alumni Association’s board of directors met Oct. 19 at the Weatherly Area Middle School.

After calling the meeting to order, President Todd Gimbi read an email from Mr. and Mrs. John Hart complimenting Gimbi and the association for all of their hard work. Gimbi sent the new superintendent, Teresa Young, a letter to welcome and inform her about the association. She became an associate member.

Yvonne Felker and her helpers were thanked for manning the alumni stand at the Weatherly Festival in Eurana Park.

A moment of silence was held in remembrance of George Nyer, Laura Richie, Sandra (Koch) West, Gladys (Larzeler) Vack, Robert L. Sendel and Grace (Hittinger) Hensel.

Reports from officers and committees were read and approved.

Treasurer Sue Ann Gerhard said the 25th anniversary dinner realized a profit of $339.56. The money was put into the scholarship fund.

Gimbi, chairman of the membership committee, reported that there are currently 622 paid members.

Discussion was held about the location of future board of directors’ meetings. According to the bylaws, the board must meet four times a year in the Weatherly area and have room for an audience. It was decided to continue to have meetings at the school and perhaps look into backup locations, such as the Weatherly Area Community Library or the Citizens Fire Company.

Gimbi shared the letter of request from Daniel Derflinger, Weatherly Area Middle and High School band director, asking for a donation toward the purchase of new uniforms for the band. The alumni association presented a check for $2,000 toward the purchase of new uniforms at the 25th anniversary dinner.

The next board of directors’ meeting will be in the Weatherly Middle School LGI Room at 7 p.m. Jan. 18.
