Three area softball players named all-state

Three Times News area softball players were recently named to the Pennsylvania High School Softball Coaches Association all-state team.

Tamaqua’s Miranda Chinchar and Jada Schellhammer, and Northern Lehigh’s Kaitlin Hoffman. Chinchar was a Class 4A First Team choice, while Schellhammer was tabbed for the second team. Hoffman was a Class 3A Second Team pick.

Chinchar hit .473 this season, collecting a team-high 27 RBIs while also scoring 28 runs. She added six doubles, four triples and three home runs.

The junior struck out just five times in 83 plate appearances, while also adding nine stolen bases. Chinchar had a .530 on-base percentage and an .784 slugging percentage.

Schellhammer was a force at the plate and in the circle for the Blue Raiders this season.

Also a junior, Schellhammer appeared in 22 games, posting a 1.13 ERA in 129 2/3 innings pitched this season. She struck out 158 and issued just 16 walks and recorded 13 complete games, going 17-5.

At the plate, Schellhammer batted .463 with a team-best 12 doubles and 16 walks with a .560 OBP and .791 slugging percentage. She tripled twice and had two home runs while also collecting 20 RBIs and scoring 24 runs.

Tamaqua advanced to the District 11 Class 4A semifinals, and finished the season 17-5.

Hoffman, the Times News Softball Player of the Year the past three seasons, enjoyed another stellar campaign this past spring.

The senior hit .585 with 33 RBIs, eight home runs, eight doubles and three triples. Hoffman, who had a .703 OBP, scored 45 runs and drew 20 walks, seven of which were intentional.

In the circle, Hoffman had a 1.74 ERA with 166 strikeouts while going 15-5 for the Bulldogs, who made it the District 11 Class 3A semis.
