Summit Hill man jailed after assaulting ex-girlfriend

A 49-year-old Summit Hill man who assaulted his ex-girlfriend on Monday was lodged in the Carbon County Correctional Facility, Nesquehoning.

Stephen Bilka, of the 100 block of North Oak Street, was charged by borough police with simple assault, strangulation, harassment and disorderly conduct.

Police said they were summoned at 12:51 a.m. to Bilka’s address for a reported assault and, upon arrival, were told by Bilka’s ex-girlfriend that he assaulted her. Police said the woman had red marks on her neck, face and bottom lip.

The woman told police when she arrived that evening, Bilka was inside the residence and became angry, attacking her by punching her in the face and throwing her onto the floor. She alleged he then pinned her on the floor and choked her by wrapping both hands around her neck, cutting off the air and blood circulation. The victim said Bilka shoved his fingers into her mouth so she would not be able to yell for help.

Police said Bilka was located a short time later in Lansford and was taken into custody and brought to the Summit Hill police station where he was read his Miranda Rights, which he waived and provided a written statement.
