Nesquehoning VFW auxiliary meets

The regular monthly meeting of the Auxiliary to Nesquehoning Memorial VFW Post 8008 was held on April 12 with President Christa Kattner presiding.

General Orders 9 were read and filed for action.

The annual Panther Valley JROTC awards will be held at 7 p.m. on May 8. Communication was received from the VFW National Home, Boscov’s “Friends helping Friends” program, and a thank you for a recent donation to the Women’s Retreat Program.

The annual Easter Party was held on April 13.

The Poppy King and Queen are Anthony Santore and Sarah Dehart. Mason Veillette and Brody Hirochek will serve in the court.

Eighteen new banners will be on display this year.

Under community service, 27 hours were reported. A bloodmobile collection was held on April 10.

Under Veterans and Family Support, 45 cards and four books of stamps were sent.

Buddy Poppy Days at Redner’s will be May 3-5.

Delegates for the Department Convention in Erie from June 12-15 are Missy Hascher, Maureen Hirochek and Lewis Hirochek Sr. Alternates are Mary Arieta, Cheri Santore and Linda Paul.

Donations were made to the American Cancer Society telethon, the Department President’s “Love Gift,” the Barger Nursing Scholarship Program and the VFW National Home.

Nomination and election of officers for 2019-20 are as follows: President Christa Kattner; Sr. Vice President Cheri Santore; Jr. Vice President Maureen Hirochek; Treasurer Mary Arieta; Chaplain Linda Paul; Conductor Lewis Hirochek Sr.; Guard Becky James; three-year Trustee Missy Hascher; two-year Maureen Hirochek; one-year Linda Paul. Appointed officers are Secretary Cheri Santore; Patriotic Instructor Donna Borgia; Historian Maureen Hirochek; Color Bearers (4): Lewis Hirochek Sr., Missy Hascher, Becky James and Mary Arieta; Banner Bearer Christa Kattner; Flag Bearer Cheri Santore and Musician Tillie Lakata.

Joint Installation of Officers will be held on May 24 at 7 p.m. The Auxiliary Installing Officer will be Maureen Hirochek.

The next regular meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on May 10 at the post home.
