Faust receives Red Cross scholarship

Skylynn Faust, a graduate of Lehighton Area High School, received a $2,000 scholarship from the American Red Cross.

Through her high school she assisted with the 2018 Poconos Red Cross Telethon, helped run Red Cross blood drives, delivered handwritten cards to the High-Rise Nursing Home, and volunteered at the middle school annual craft fair.

Faust said, “taking part in these events allowed me to expand my knowledge about the community and those involved in it as well.”

In addition to volunteering with the Red Cross, Faust has also been an active member of the community by serving with food pantries, cleaning up neighborhood trash, helping with the Lehighton carnival, and assisting in the candlelight service in Jim Thorpe for a student who recently lost a battle with cancer.

Also, she tutored some students in Algebra 1 and helped incoming freshmen adjust to the high school environment.

Faust plans on using this scholarship to help with the tuition costs of attending Kings College to study neuroscience. She will play college basketball.

After college graduation, Faust plans to apply for a postgraduate internship or residency.

She appreciates the scholarship because the financial demands of college tuition continue to grow ever year.

Faust adds, “Thank you for the opportunity to apply for a scholarship through the Red Cross. I truly enjoyed being a member of this club and being able to participate in events around the community and the school.”
