Crash destroys restaurant sign

Charges have been filed in a two-car crash that destroyed the sign at Sisters Cantina In Tamaqua on Sept. 25.

Brian Jonathan Haley, 24, of Center Street, Tamaqua, was driving a blue Dodge Dart in the area, shortly before 6 p.m., when he lost control, smashed into the restaurant sign and a parked silver Toyota Scion.

Haley was inside the restaurant when officers arrived and appeared to be under the influence of a controlled subject. He was transported to St. Luke’s Miners Hospital, Coaldale, by ambulance.

After being treated by medical staff, Haley was asked to submit to a blood test. He refused, but told the officer he had been using marijuana.

He was charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, reckless driving, careless driving and failure to drive at a safe speed.

Both cars had to be towed from the scene.
