Schuylkill County judges have allowed probation for several local lawbreakers, as long as they follow the rules.

Frederick King, 42, of Mahanoy City:charged by Tamaqua police with delivery of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver, criminal use of a communication facility, and possession of a controlled substance. The charges were filed after an incident on May 9, 2013.Judge Jaqueline Russell sentenced King to one year of probation, and to perform 20 hours of community service. He must also pay court costs and fees. The charges of delivery of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver, criminal use of a communication facility were dropped during plea negotiations.Russell also sentenced King in another case, this one from April 18, 2013. The charges and sentence were the same as in the first case, and the sentence is to run at the same time.Michael Divan, 31, of Shippensburg: Charged by Rush Township police with possession of drug paraphernalia after an incident on July 17, 2013.President Judge William P. Baldwin sentenced Diven to one year of probation and to pay court costs and fees.Nicole Strawdinger, 34, of Nesquehoning: Charged by Coaldale police with possession of drug paraphernalia and driving without a license after an incident on May 29, 2013. Baldwin sentenced her to one year of probation, 20 hours of community service, and to pay court costs and fees.Michael Confer, 25, of Nesquehoning: Charged by Tamaqua police with possession of drug paraphernalia after an incident on Aug. 26, 2013. Baldwin sentenced him to six months of probation, and to pay court costs and fees.Baldwin also sentenced Confer on a second charge of possession of a controlled substance, filed Aug. 7, 2013 by the county district attorney's office. Charges of delivery of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver, and possession of drug paraphernalia were dropped.Confer must serve an additional year of probation and perform 10 hours of community service, in addition to court costs and fees.Kyle Merenda, 19, of Barnesville: Charged by McAdoo police with conspiracy, delivery of a controlled substance, delivery of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia after an incident on May 7, 2013.Baldwin sentenced him to 23 months of probation and 10 hours of community service. he must also pay court costs and fees. The charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia were dropped.Kerry Hoffman, 21, of Nesquehoning: Charged by Rush Township police with attempted retail theft after an incident on April 21, 2013. Baldwin sentenced him to one year of probation and 10 hours of community service. he must also pay court costs and fees.Anthony Grega, 20, of Hazleton: charged by McAdoo police with driving under the influence, purchasing alcohol by a minor, failing to obey a traffic control device and consuming alcoholic beverages.
