Pl. Vy. wins $35K in T-Mobile competition
Pleasant Valley High School was awarded $30,000 last school year through the T-Mobile Friday Night 5G Lights competition and is at it again this school year with an awarded of $5,000 last Friday through the competition’s $5KFridays.
School Board director Ryan O’Keefe announced at the meeting Thursday that the high school had won the $5,000. He explained that the high school also won $5,000 last school year through the competition, as well as being one of the 40 schools selected to win the $25,000 prize.
“We were the only school in Pennsylvania to be in that $25,000 group,” O’Keefe said.
According to the T-Mobile Friday Night 5G Lights competition website, it will award $1 million to one school in April 2027, four schools will win $250,000 each, and 40 schools will win $25,000 each. For $5K Fridays, 1,000 schools will win $5,000. So far, 300 schools were awarded $5,000 each on Aug. 7, and 100 schools will win $5,000 each week from Aug. 14 to Sept. 25. Pleasant Valley was won of those winners this school year, but they can win again.
The website states, “Anyone can post on Instagram and/or X to help their school win. To post in support of your school, tag @TMobile and your school and use hashtags #FN5GL and #Entry. Each correctly tagged post counts as one entry in $5K Fridays. Entries roll over every week, so post often!”
A T-Mobile press release added that, “Fans can also show their school spirit with a new AR Gronk selfie experience, available at FN5GL.com/AR.”
As far as the big ticket prizes in April, public voting will run from Oct. 8 to 25. “Anyone in the country can vote once per day through FridayNight5GLights.com and the T-Life app. Finalists may also earn potential bonus votes by completing social media ‘Spirit Week’ challenges posted on the Friday Night 5G Lights website,” as stated on the website
With the $30,000 that the high school was awarded last year, athletic director James Korcienski told the school board at their workshop meeting on Aug. 13 that play clocks and two team shelters were purchased. The items have arrived. The play clocks have been installed and the shelters from Kwik Goal custom shelters were set up.
In order to help the high school possibly win big this year, the school district has some tips:
• Each post equals one entry in $5K Fridays;
• Photos and videos qualify as entries;
• Focus post on school pride and community involvement, and;
• In addition to tagging @TMobile and your school, and using hashtags #FN5GL, also use #Entry on every post.
