Rush tax office

The office of Rush Township Tax Collector Dolores Walck will be open on Oct. 11 and closed on Oct. 18. This is a change from the schedule printed on the tax bills.

The office is located at 117 Cumberland Ave., Hometown.

Tamaqua seniors

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met Sept. 28 at the Tamaqua YMCA with 49 members in attendance. President Melody Weicker conducted the business session after opening the meeting with the invocation “A Sure Way to a Happy Day.”

The meeting included a presentation by Joan Breslin, a representative of the Schuylkill Transportation System. She spoke of an upcoming rate increase and provided information on the services they provide.

Kathleen Valentine was welcomed back to the group.

Upcoming trips include: Oct. 20, Mohegan Sun Casino in Wilkes-Barre; Dec. 14, Christmas party.

The group is open to anyone 55 or older. Meetings are held at 1 p.m. Thursdays at the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St. The Aug. 24 meeting will include the celebration of July and August birthdays.

Soup social

The next monthly community soup social at Trinity United Church of Christ will be held on Saturday. The social will be held from 4-6 p.m. in the social hall.

The meal is free to the public and everyone is welcome to enjoy the soup, desserts, refreshments and time with friends.

Band festival

The Land of the Running Water Marching Band Festival, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 7, has been canceled due to lack of availability of bands.

Walk with a Doc

St. Luke’s University Health Network’s popular Walk with a Doc series returns to Tamaqua on Oct. 12.

Led by Dr. Joanne Calabrese, the 1-mile walk will also include free blood pressure screenings and breast cancer awareness information. It will start at 5:30 p.m. at St. Luke’s Internal Medicine Office, 120 Pine St., Tamaqua.

Walkers will be able to go at their own pace and have their health questions answered by a community physician.

Zion Lutheran

Zion Lutheran Church, 109 N. Greenwood St., will host a Blessing of the Animals service at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. This will be part of the regular Saturday evening service.

All pets must be leashed or contained.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, Bethany will be participating in the Heritage Day Festival; the monthly service at the Tamaqua ABC Hi Rise will be held at 6 p.m.; growth group meets at 6 p.m.

Pastor Rick Clemson will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service on Sunday in American Primitive Methodist Church. Sunday school classes are held at 9:30 a.m.

Trustees will meet at 7 p.m. on Oct. 11.
