Nesquehoning Borough Council named Michael Kravelk to the newly created position of fire commissioner.

The action was taken in the wake of the surprise announcement of the resignation of Bernard J. Gogal, who has been the borough fire chief since 1975.Prior to the meeting, delegates from all three fire companies in the community met to plan a line of succession. Frank Kattner, chief of the Hauto Fire Company, served as spokesman for the firefighters and said it was the recommendation of the combined chiefs that the position of fire commissioner be created.Under the plan, Kravelk's task is to determine the division of responsibilities of the three fire chiefs and present it to the council.
