Troopers investigate numerous crashes

State police at Lehighton reported on numerous crashes investigated by troopers recently.

A two-vehicle crash was reported at 1:20 p.m. May 31 along Route 209 at Raymond Street in Towamensing Township. Troopers said Spencer D. Moyer, 16, of Palmerton was behind Sandra A. Markley, 66, of Lehighton, southbound and approaching the intersection with Raymond Street when Markley stopped due to traffic. Moyer was unable to stop with the front of his 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier striking the rear of Markley's 2002 Dodge Durango.No one was injured. Damages were heavy to the front end of the Cavalier, which was towed, with minor to the Durango. Moyer was cited for following too closely.Another crash on May 31 was reported at 4:13 p.m. along Maury Road in Penn Forest Township. Troopers said Debra K. Matthews, 59, of Germansville, Lehigh County, was operating a 2007 Harley-Davidson Sportster motorcycle southbound and attempting to negotiate a right curve when she lost control. The bike crossed the center line and onto the east berm where it struck an embankment, causing Matthews to be ejected from the bike.Matthews was injured and taken to the Lehighton hospital by the Lehighton ambulance. She was cited for driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed.A one-vehicle crash was reported at 9:30 p.m. May 31 along Route 895 at Germans Road, in East Penn Township. Troopers said Ryan A. Michalik, 22, of Lehighton, was driving a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire westbound and attempting to make a left-hand turn onto Germans Road. Troopers said Michalik began to turn before Germans Road, causing the Pontiac to go off the road and into a water-filled ditch, where it came to rest partially submerged in the water.Michalik was not injured and damages were minor to the vehicle.Troopers investigated a two-vehicle crash at 10:59 a.m. May 30 at the intersection of Forest Inn Road and Stoney Ridge Road in Lower Towamensing Township, Carbon County.Troopers said Andrew J. Farro, 45, of Palmerton, was northbound driving a 2007 Ford Edge on Forest Inn Road when Thomas M. Gimbor, 86, of Slatington, driving a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu, pulled out from Stoney Ridge Road into Farro's path and a collision occurred.The two drivers were not injured. A passenger with Gimbor, Beatriz Rodriguez, 50, of Palmerton, was injured and taken to the Palmerton hospital by Palmerton ambulance.Troopers cited Gimbor for a stop sign violation.A one-vehicle crash was reported on May 30 at 9:36 a.m. along Route 209 in Polk Township. Troopers said Donna A. Cuddeback, 63, of Bronx, New York, was driving a 2014 Subaru Forester southbound when she lost control when the driver's side front and rear tires failed. The Subaru crossed both lanes of travel and came to rest facing south along the east berm. Cuddeback was not injured.A two-vehicle crash occurred at 9:38 a.m. May 28 along White Street in Bowmanstown. Troopers said Susan E. Zelinsky, 65, of Palmerton, was eastbound in a 2010 Ford Edge when she lost control of her vehicle, which in turn struck a 2014 Dodge Journey parked along the curb.Zelinsky and her passenger, Zachary J. Zelinsky, 3, Palmerton, were not injured. Damages were disabling to the Ford and minor to the Dodge.Zelinsky was cited for the crash.A two-vehicle crash occurred at 11:32 a.m. June 2 along Route 209, near Oakwood Road in Polk Township. Troopers said Nicole C. Rhoads, 23, of Stroudsburg, was following another vehicle that slowed to make a left turn into a local business. Rhoads slowed down when her 2004 Ford Escape was struck in the rear by a 2010 Hyundai Accent driven by Kristin S. Bruss, 44, of Stroudsburg.Bruss sustained a minor injury and was taken to Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, by West End ambulance. Both vehicles were driven from the scene.Troopers cited Bruss for following too closely.A two-vehicle crash was reported at 11:41 a.m. June 5 at Lizard Creek Road and Lehigh Avenue in Bowmanstown. Troopers said Carol Ann D. Green, 19, of Palmerton, was driving a 2007 Pontiac G5 northbound on Lehigh and struck a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Jeffrey Minnich, 58, of Allentown, who was stopped at the intersection. Green sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by Palmerton ambulance personnel. Minnich was not injured. The G5 had to be towed.Troopers cited Green for following too closely.On June 8 at 10:22 p.m. Lauren J. Malik, 17, of Palmerton, was driving a 1998 Pontiac Grand Am westbound on Horseshoe Drive in Towamensing Township when she entered a sharp right curve at a speed that was too fast to negotiate the curve.The Grand Am slid off the road and crashed into a tree. Malik had to be extricated from the vehicle and taken to the Palmerton hospital by Palmerton ambulance for treatment of minor injuries, troopers said.A one-vehicle crash was reported at 6:42 p.m. Saturday along Hatchery Road in Penn Forest Township. Troopers said Marta Barnabishvili, 22, of Voorhees, New Jersey, was driving a 2005 Toyota Camry southbound and attempting to make a left turn when she lost control. The front end of the Camry hit a tree along the south berm.Neither Barnabishvili nor passengers Irene T. Shaji, 23, of Edison, New Jersey, and Justin R. Fazzolari, 23, of Hazlet, New Jersey, were injured.Troopers cited Barnabishvili for driving at an unsafe speed.
