Eleven defendants are placed in ARD program

Eleven defendants in pending criminal cases were placed in Carbon County's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program Monday by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic.

If a person successfully completes all the conditions of the program for first-time offenders, their record is wiped clean. However, if they fail to complete it, or are revoked from it, then they would face trial on all pending charges. A person does not admit guilt in entering the program.Matthew James Demaree, 26, of Breinigsville, Lehigh County, was placed for six months on a charge of possession of marijuana. He was arrested by Mahoning Township police on Feb. 3 in the parking lot of Zion Lutheran Church in Packerton. Police responded to a suspicious vehicle in the area and found Demaree parked in his vehicle in the lot.He was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendations for treatment.Jermaine Matthew Gonzalez, 22, of Jim Thorpe, was placed for a year on a charge of theft. He was arrested on July 28, 2014, by Jim Thorpe police for an incident at the Subway restaurant at 5 Lehigh Ave.He was assessed $450 and ordered to get a D&A evaluation and zero tolerance imposed on D&A use.Milagros M. Plair, 68, of Palmerton, was placed for a year on a charge of forgery. She was charged by Jim Thorpe police for allegedly forging a prescription from Dr. Penny Shoop.She was assessed $450 and ordered to get a mental health evaluation.Rebecca Ann Barnhart, 20, of Palmerton, was placed for a year on a charge of resisting arrest. She was arrested on Nov. 16, 2014, by state police at Lehighton for an incident in the area of 205 Church Road in Palmerton.She was assessed $450 and ordered to get a D&A evaluation and render 50 hours of community service.Leo Paul Cornelius II, 50, of West Chester, Chester County, was placed for a year on a charge of driving under the influence. He was arrested on Nov. 30, 2014, along Maury Road in Franklin Township by state police at Lehighton. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.He was assessed $600 and his license was suspended for 60 days.He was assessed $450 and ordered to get both D&A and mental health evaluations, have no contact with the victim, and continue attending AA meetings. It was also noted a protection from abuse order is in place for the maximum term of three years.Jacob Tyler Hofacker, 21, of Palmerton, was placed for a year on a DUI charge. He was arrested on June 30, 2014, along Route 248 in Franklin Township by state police at Lehighton. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.He was assessed $600 and his license was suspended for 60 days.Louis Francis Holler, 48, of Whitehall, was placed for six months on a DUI charge. He was arrested on Nov. 21, 2014, along Forest Inn Road in Lower Towamensing Township by state police at Lehighton. A test showed 0.08 BAC.He was assessed $450.Anthony Michael Nardone, 19, of Lehighton, was placed for a year on a DUI charge. He was arrested on June 24, 2014, along Summit Avenue, in Lehighton, by state police at Lehighton. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.He was assessed $600 and his license was suspended for 90 days.Travis Lee Reed, 29, of Lehighton, was placed on a DUI charge. He was arrested on Nov. 7, 2014, along Second Street in Lehighton by state police at Lehighton. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.He was assessed $600 and his license was suspended for 60 days.Timothy Todd Wentz, 52, of Palmerton, was placed on a DUI charge for six months. He was arrested on Dec. 26, 2014, along Main Street in Parryville by state police at Lehighton. A test showed 0.15 BAC.He was assessed $500 and his license was suspended for 60 days.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000, and a $50 per month supervision fee while in the program.
