McAdoo police charge drug suspects

McAdoo police released information on several charges filed after traffic stops.

• Wayne Anderson Jr., 22, of Hazleton, was charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance after police stopped him at 9:38 p.m. on Feb. 22. The stop was made due to heavily tinted windows. Officers detected a strong odor of marijuana and Anderson admitted smoking pot about 90 minutes earlier.

He was also cited for the window tint and for driving with a DUI related suspended license.

• Amanda Furedi, 30, of Drifton, was stopped at 11:32 p.m. on Feb. 28 due to a brake light issue. After officers said they could smell marijuana, Furedi told them it was all gone, as she smoked it 20 minutes earlier.

Police searched her vehicle and found a metal straw and a folded thick piece of paper with a white powder. Furedi told police it was left by a friend and she believed it was methamphetamine.

She failed field sobriety tests and was taken for blood tests.

Results of the test were positive for THC. She was charged with two counts of DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia and the traffic citation.

• Rafael Tavarez Garcia, 19, of Hazleton, was stopped at 10:20 p.m. on March 5 for heavily tinted windows and a nonworking head light. Officers could smell marijuana and Garcia told them he last smoked pot around noon. Due to his poor performance on field sobriety tests he was taken to the hospital for blood tests.

Results were positive for THC.

He was charged with two counts of DUI and summary offenses for the headlight and window tint.
