Drugs, paraphernalia found after traffic stop

Two people were cited by Tamaqua police after a speeding incident at 12:15 p.m. on Aug. 14.

Officers were monitoring traffic on Route 309 as part of the statewide Aggressive Driving Campaign when a red Honda whizzed past at 64 mph in a 45 mph zone. The officer followed, using lights and siren to get the driver's attention.The Honda skidded off the road near Mermon Motors, with the driver getting out and fleeing in to a wooded area. The driver was identified as Joseph Franz, 27, 190 Lincoln Drive, Tamaqua. A passenger in the Honda was identified as Lacey Pajakinas, 24, of 20 Ben Titus Road, Tamaqua.While officers were combing the wooded area for Franz, Pajakinas gave another officer permission to search the Honda, which is registered to her. The search yielded a purple case containing four syringes, a metal spoon, 36 unidentified white pills, seven Methocarbamol pills, two cut straws, a razor blade and a mirror with a residue on it.The search of the woods failed to find Franz. However, officers from the Schuylkill County Adult Probation Office took Franz into custody less than two hours later on Schuylkill Avenue in Tamaqua. Since he was wanted for a parole violation, he was transported to the Schuylkill County Prison.In addition to the parole violation, Franz was cited for flight to avoid apprehension, possession of drug paraphernalia, providing false identification to law enforcement (parole officers), disorderly conduct, driving without a valid license, speeding and careless driving.Pajakinas was cited for a traffic violation.
