Speed was blamed for a one-vehicle crash that occurred at 4:07 p.m. on Sunday in Schuylkill County.
State police at Frackville said Nicole A. Russell, 30, of Shenandoah, was driving a 2000 Dodge Durango northbound on Route 61 in Blythe Township, and passing a slower moving vehicle when she lost control on the wet road.The Durango slid across the right lane and shoulder and impacted with the guide rail with its front end. After impact the vehicle spun about 180 degrees clockwise and again struck the guide rail with its rear left corner.It then spun 380 degrees clockwise and slid across both northbound lanes before coming to rest straddling the left northbound lane and shoulder facing south.Russell and passengers Lisa M. Russell, 48; Christopher A. Russell, 19; and an 11-year-old female, all from Shenandoah, were not injured.Troopers cited Russell for driving too fast for conditions.Troopers also investigated a one-vehicle crash involving a bear that occurred at 8:23 p.m. on Saturday along Ringtown Boulevard in Union Township.Troopers said Connor J. Wood, 17, of Ringtown, was driving a 2007 Mazda hatchback northbound when a bear entered the road in front of him. Wood was unable to avoid striking the bear.After impact the bear ran off into the woods. Wood was not injured, but the Mazda had to be towed from the scene.
